The Technician license is the entry-level U.S. amateur radio license. It gives you all amateur privileges above 30 MHz – such as 2 meters and 70 centimeters – plus some HF privileges, including voice on part of 10 meters.
The exam (Element 2) has 35 multiple-choice questions, one from each of the 35 groups in the pool. You need 26 correct (74%) to pass. All questions come from the public question pool, which is valid from July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2030.
Exams are given by Volunteer Examiners in person or online. There is no age limit and no Morse code test. The license is valid for 10 years.
